SWAFO reaches out to student body

The Student Welfare and Formations Office, known to all as SWAFO, is the unit in charge of enforcing the student discipline policies, rules and regulations as stated in the Student Handbook.

With its vision to share holistic formation of students for an upright and godly life, in words, deeds, relationship with the community and the environment, guiding them to be disciplined and excellent students, patriotic, and God- fearing professionals in the future, SWAFO is committed to become an active unit of the Office of Student Services (OSS) tasked to maintain student discipline under the inspiration of St. La Salle’s vision – mission and enlightened with the Lasallian core values of Faith, Zeal, and Communion.

In order to realize their vision, SWAFO has made efforts to change the outlook of the students towards its office to become more than a rule-enforcer but also a unit championing students’ rights, awareness and formation.

Beginning June 2012, SWAFO has lived up to its new thrust “Students Will Never Be A Foe With SWAFO” geared towards building the bridges between their office and the student body.

The Peer Assistance Program (P.A.P) has also been re-introduced, providing opportunities for students to be affiliated with SWAFO in promoting a harmonious relationship between the student body and the student formators, as well as to serve as role models to their peers in upholding proper discipline and acting as Lasallians in every way possible.

SWAFO has also released a more comprehensive and creative guide for students regarding the dress code -- what to wear during specific days, and how to properly wear these. Having presented ten different pairs of students ranging from the school uniform, to the wash day civilian attire, to the different business attires of students from particular courses from the seven colleges, and to the prescribed uniforms for ROTC cadets, SWAFO lives up to its vision of championing awareness.

Moreover, the establishment of its Official Facebook page, www.facebook.com/StudentWelfareAndFormationOfficeswafo, its Official Twitter Account https://twitter.com/SWAFOdlsud, and its Official Mobile Number – 09064486439, SWAFO is keeping abreast with the social media trends as an effective tool of communicating and bridging the gap between their office and the students.

Lastly, in its pursuit to foster awareness of students about their rights inside and outside the campus together with the necessary diligence and responsibility that students should exercise in the practice of said rights, SWAFO together with POLCA, CLASC and USC shall be spearheading a seminar on said topic entitled “Students’ Rights. Let’s Get It Right!” It shall happen on August 8, 2012 at the Tanghalang Julian Felipe from 4 – 6:30 p.m.

These are all proof of a more progressive SWAFO. The office, through the efforts of its director and the Formatores, has been given a spot on the different assemblies and activities of the colleges, as well as in the 95.9 Green FM radio station managed by the College of Liberal Arts, to further involve more students and uphold awareness.

All these efforts, along with more means and ways planned by the office, are all directed to promote awareness, educate the students of their rights, and uphold a harmonious relationship between them and the student body, all for a more responsive, responsible and educated Lasallian community of DLSU-D.

Indeed, Students Will Never Be A Foe With SWAFO. (Michael Fabian, student leader; Planning Committee Head, Peer Assistance Program of SWAFO)

ROTC Parents' Orientation

The 267th Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit conducted a Parents’ Orientation for the Unit’s Military Officer Candidate Course (MOCC) trainees last July 7, 2012 held at the Unit’s conference room. This activity was done to inform the parents as to the Requirements, Program of Instruction, and the Schedule of MOCC Training. Majority of the MOCC parents attended the said activity.

LTJG Jude Marian B. Soria PN, a member of the Philippine Military Academy class of 2006 and the current 267th NROTCU assistant commandant, discussed the program of instruction to update the parents the specific program their son/daughter undertakes, together with the schedule of activities.

Mr. Dennis B. Maldo, the 267th NROTCU Coordinator, explained to the parents the benefits of a Cadet Officer while still in the university, such as scholarship grants and the opportunity to participate in various university-sponsored leadership seminars for student leaders. The activity was also animated by the presence of our very own alumnus and former 267th NROTCU Cadet Officer, LTJG Rommel Rodriguez PN, who motivated the parents to support the decision of their children by narrating his meaningful experience as a cadet officer in the university and the later as a commissioned officer of the Philippine Navy.

The activity was concluded by answering questions from the parents, most of the questions were related to apprehensions in relation to the safety of their children while undergoing the training. The 267th Training Staffs, headed by the 267th NRTOCU Commandant, CDR Wendell T. Servando PN (GSC), assured the parents that the conduct of the training will follow all national laws, Philippine Navy policies, and University Policies that protect the right of the students attending Basic and Advance ROTC courses
